Gamecocks Prepare To Gamble On Youth At Left Tackle

Gamecocks Prepare To Gamble On Youth At Left Tackle

South Carolina's Offensive Line Faces Uncertainty

The South Carolina Gamecocks are entering the 2023 season with a number of question marks along their offensive line, particularly at the left tackle position.

The Gamecocks lost their starting left tackle, Dylan Wonnum, to graduation, and they do not have a clear-cut replacement on the roster.

Youth Movement On The Horizon

South Carolina's most likely option at left tackle is sophomore Jakai Moore.

Moore, a former four-star recruit, played in 11 games last season, primarily on special teams.

Redshirt freshman Oluwatosin Babalade is another option at left tackle.

Babalade, who is 6-foot-8 and 330 pounds, was a highly touted recruit out of high school.

If Moore or Babalade is not ready to start, the Gamecocks could turn to redshirt senior Jordan Davis.

Davis has started 20 games at right tackle for the Gamecocks, but he has also played some left tackle in the past.

Conclusion

The Gamecocks are taking a gamble on youth at left tackle, but they believe that Moore or Babalade has the potential to be a star.

If either of those players can step up and fill the void left by Wonnum, the Gamecocks' offensive line should be in good shape in 2023.
