Andre Pallante Outduels Paul Skenes As Cardinals Blank Pirates 4 0

Andre Pallante Outduels Paul Skenes as Cardinals Blank Pirates 4-0

Pallante Continues Impressive Run

Andre Pallante continued his impressive run on the mound, tossing six shutout innings to lead the St. Louis Cardinals to a 4-0 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday night.

Pallante allowed just three hits and two walks while striking out eight batters. He has now allowed just one earned run over his last three starts, spanning 18 innings.

Skenes Struggles in Debut

On the other side, Pirates rookie Paul Skenes struggled in his Major League debut. The 21-year-old right-hander allowed four runs on seven hits over 4 1/3 innings.

Skenes, who was one of Pittsburgh's top prospects, had been impressive in the minors this season, but he was unable to find his rhythm against the Cardinals.

Cardinals Offense Provides Support

The Cardinals offense provided Pallante with plenty of support, scoring four runs off Skenes and the Pirates bullpen.

Paul Goldschmidt drove in two runs with a single in the second inning, and Lars Nootbaar added an RBI single in the fourth.

Defense Shines

The Cardinals defense also played a key role in the victory, turning two double plays and making several other key plays.

Shortstop Paul DeJong made a diving stop on a ground ball in the third inning, and center fielder Harrison Bader tracked down a long fly ball in the sixth.

Cardinals Win Fourth Straight

The win was the Cardinals' fourth straight and improved their record to 21-19 on the season.

The Pirates, meanwhile, have now lost four straight and are 17-23.
