Disappointing Start For Clarkes Men

Scotland Falls to Germany in Euro 2024 Opener

Disappointing Start for Clarke's Men

Scotland's Euro 2024 campaign got off to a disappointing start on Friday, as they fell to a 1-0 defeat against Germany in Munich. Florian Wirtz scored the only goal of the game in the first half, leaving Steve Clarke's men with a mountain to climb in their remaining Group A fixtures.

Scotland Wilts Under German Pressure

Scotland struggled to cope with Germany's high-tempo attacking play and were reduced to 10 men just before halftime when Kieran Tierney was sent off for a second bookable offense. The Germans continued to dominate possession in the second half and could have extended their lead on several occasions.

Wirtz Strikes Early

The game's decisive moment came in the 22nd minute when Wirtz received the ball on the edge of the penalty area and unleashed a low shot into the bottom corner. Scotland goalkeeper Craig Gordon got a hand to the ball but could not keep it out.

Scotland's Task Gets Tougher

The defeat leaves Scotland with a tough task in their remaining matches against Croatia and the Czech Republic. They will need to secure at least four points from those games to have any chance of qualifying for the knockout stages.
